Gacy (2003)

I gave this 2 of 5 stars on Netflix

There is an unsettling feel to the way the movie is acted and filmed, but truly, I cannot tell if that is accident, intentional, or both. It sets a tone of weirdness and neutralizes it with cartoonishness, like I can’t stop picturing these folks in campy comedies. The whole thing is very slow to start. They hint and hint and hint and then never really commit to the attrocity. If you live under a rock and don’t already know the punchline, you might shut it off before you got there.

Serial killer movies, especially those based on real life, aren’t effectiveunless they make you wonder about your neighbors. This one doesn’t. You want real screwed up dreams, watch Dahmer instead.
